John was born in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts.1   John's father was John Knowlton and his mother was Margery Wilson.  His paternal grandparents were William Knowlton and Anne Elizabeth Knowlton; his maternal grandfather is Wilson. He had a brother and a sister, named Abraham and Elizabeth.  He died on September 11th, 1720 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts.2
