Américo's father was Américo Gonzalez and his mother was Delia Sofía Lugon Fiant.  His maternal grandparents were  Máximo Lugon Seppey and  María Crescencia Fiant Imhoff.  He was the oldest of four children.  He had three brothers named Alberto, Rogelio and Juan Luis.
