Vangelli was born in 1934.  Vangelli's father was Christos Kottaras and his mother was Panagoula Raptis.  His paternal grandparents were Argiri Kottaras and Eleni ?; his maternal grandparents were Georgo Raptis and Constantina (Dina) ?. He had six brothers and a sister, named Andreas, Argiri, George, Vasillis, Nickos, Lefteri and Sophia.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 26 in 1960.
