Israel was born in 1901.  Israel's father was Natan Shenkelbach and his mother was Gizela Gittle Berner.  His maternal grandparents were Yitzhak Berner and Loti Stary. He had two brothers and a sister, named Benon/Benyo, Netanel Nusio and Erna. He had a half-brother.  He died at the age of 1 in 1902.
