Mathew was born in 1830 in Armley Leeds Yorkshire.1   Mathew's father is Joseph Mann and his mother is Mary (Mann). He has four brothers and a sister, named George, Andrew, Joseph, John and Sarah.  He is the fifth oldest of the six children.
