George was born in 1850 in Horsforth Yorkshire.1   George's father is Thomas Gray and her mother is Martha (Gray). She has six brothers and five sisters, named John, William, Thomas, James, Charles, Joseph, Louisa, Jane, Mary Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth.  She is the nineth oldest of the twelve children.
