Gregorio's father was Juan Valentin Guinea Salazar and his mother was Úrsula de Serralde Urriaga.  His paternal grandparents were Mateo de Guinea and Bernarda de Salazar; his maternal grandparents were Mouso de Serralde and Concepción de Urriaga. He had a brother and two sisters, named Cipriano, Mª Isabel and Rosa Mª.
