Martha was born on March 23rd, 1859.  Martha's father was Henry Smithman and her mother was Agnes Wagner.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Smithman and Charlotte. She had four brothers and six sisters, named William, John, Edward, Henry, Ann, Emily, Mary, Lydia, Charlotte and Agnes.  She was the nineth oldest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 38 on July 8th, 1897.
