Edith, known as Edie, was born on June 13th, 1875 in QLD, Australia. Edie's father was Arthur John Woodland and her mother was Louisa Jemima Empson. Her paternal grandparents were John Woodland and Rachel Bush; her maternal grandparents were Charles Empson and Maria Austen. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Harry, Bill, Ted, Alfred, Hannah, Emily, Elsie, Sal and Lil. She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
