    I think he went to Mansford Street School, Bethnal Green. He took a 7 year apprenticeship to become a printer and worked on many newspapers such as The Herald The Star, The Express, The Sunday Times. He enlisted for the army in 1939, The Royal Engineers and was sent to France as part of the British expeditionary force. He fought in Northern France around Bapaume Arras and Lille and eventually left after helpng defend Dunkirk. As an Engineer he was one of the last to leave as he was laying mines. In 1942 he was sent to North Africa as part of Operation Torch; landed at Bone in Algeria and worked his way to the Battle of the Kasserine Pass in Tunisia. He suffered from shell shock when two colleagues were killed after stepping on a land mine. He was found wandering in the desert and returned to England and hospital. He was later discharged from the forces through illness, but recovered well. He was interested in Boxing and followed his cousin Vicky Andreetti as did his father George.
