Richard was born on August 31st, 1811 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on September 19th, 1811 at St Margaret's Barking. Richard's father was Richard Born Yarmouth Wallbank (Fisherman b Yarmouth) and his mother was Jane Thredder (Chorlea). His maternal grandparents were Henry [fisherman] Thredder and Priscella Vere. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, John, Caroline and <Unknown>. Richard and Joseph were twins.
