James was born about April 1866 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on April 29th, 1866 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.1   James' father was James Vesey (Fisherman) and his mother was Mary  Ann.  His paternal grandparents were Jonas Vesey (b Ingatestone Fisherman) and Sarah Ann Jefferies Fincham (Lodging House Keeper). He had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry, James, Rosa and Emma.  He was the oldest of the five children.
