Sarah was born in 1868 in Liverpool Lancashire.1   Sarah's father was Nicholas Purdye and her mother was Sarah Ann.  Her paternal grandparents are Nicholas Purdye and <Unknown>. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Maud and Ada.  She was the oldest of the four children.
