Ellen was born in 1840 in Gt Bromley Essex.1   Ellen's father was Henry Gosling and her mother was Sarah.  She was an only child.  She died at the age of 70 in June 1910 in Suffolk.2

Ellen and Carter were married in a religious ceremony in December 1858 in Bosmere Suffolk. They had four sons and five daughters, named Walter, Joseph, Carter, Edward, Caroline, Ada, Sarah, Ellen and Julie.
