William was born about January 28th, 1749 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on February 2nd, 1750 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.1  William's father was Jacob Cuff (Victullar) and his mother was Mary Kepworth (was she 84).  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Cuff (Farmer of Whitchurch) and Bridget Simmons. He had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
