John was born about July 1785 in Chignal St James Essex and his christening took place there on July 31st, 1785.1   John's father was Thomas ? Childs (Shoemaker/ WILL/42yr Church ) and his mother was Mary Copsey. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Zachariah, Mary, Margaret and Sophia.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
