George was born in 1866 in Halstead Essex.1   George's father was Benjamin Brewer and his mother was Mary Ann.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel  Brewer (Iron Work Labourer) and Elizabeth. He had a brother and a sister, named Alfred and Harriett.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
