Esther was born on January 27th, 1879 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.  Esther's father was James BURNS and her mother was Esther RAMSBOTTOM.  Her paternal grandparents were John BURNS and Bridget (UNKNOWN); her maternal grandparents were James RAMSBOTTOM and Elizabeth DITCHFIELD.  She had five brothers and three sisters, named James, John, William, Walter, Fred, Elizabeth, Annie and Charlotte.  She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
