obituary notice: "Mrs. Sarah Gibson in the 85th year of her age died at Hillside, Logootee... She was a firm member of the Catholic church and her practice as well as her lively faith were worthy of our highest commendation as well as our endeavors to imitate her many virtures especially charity in defendent the absunt and zeal and earnestness for the one thing necessary - the salvation of the soul. She was one of the first settlers of this part of Indiana (from Kentucky) and leaves many, many friends; in fact, we can safely say she had not an enemy...She was as calm, happy and peaceful looking a corpse as we have ever seen and we hope and believe she had merited to hear from her Judge those consoling words - come ye blessed of my Father and possess the kingdom prepared for you." /The Daviess County Democrat/ Vol. 17, No. 7. Saturday, January 5, 1884 has following death notice: Gough, Charles M. Died 30 Dec 1883, 3:55pm, age 52, at his residence in Gretna, La. Born Hardin Co., KY, 31 Mar 1832. Came to Daviess Co., IN, age 4. Stayed until June 8, 1882, then moved to Texas. Became ill and moved to Louisiana to become healthy, but died there. Devout Catholic. Leaves wife, five children, one brother, and three sisters. (also indexed:) Gough Stephen T., brother of Charles M. Gough.
Charles M. lived in Barr Twp, and his lands were listed as delinquent the The Daviess County Democrat, Vol. 17, No. 9, Saturday, January 19, 1884.
A LIST OF LANDS AND LOTS" "returned and remaining delinquent for the year 1882 and previous years, in Daviess county, Indiana, with penalty and interest attached thereto, together with the taxes for the current year, 1883, and costs of advertising:
Lavelle, James C., uuditor of Daviess Co., Ind. Mr. Lavelle's statement at the end of the article alerts the public that the listed properties would be sold in February 1884 because the owners had not paid taxes for the properties for 1882 or 1883. I may be reading this wrong, but I believe some of them might have been delinquent for even more years. In order to not have their land sold, people could pay the tax, penalty, and interest before the second Monday in February, 1884.
Reference to a Mary GOUGH, from 1886 Goodspeed bio of Michael CUNNINGHAM, "the leading farmer of Barr Township, Daviess Co., Ind.":

Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham became the parents of these children: Mary, Patrick, Andrew, Aliza, Louis, Michael, John and Joseph.
