  • per Earl EVANS:  Mary Ann EVANS was born on October 14, 1819 in Edgefield Co, SC.  She died about 1856 in Edgefield Co, SC.
    
    She was married to John Canfield THOMAS (son of Stephen THOMAS and Sarah CANFIELD) about 1838.  John Canfield THOMAS was born about 1818 in Edgefield Co, SC.  He appeared on the census in 1840 in Edgefield Co, SC p77 #10.  He appeared on the census in 1850 in Edgefield Co, SC #2320.  He died after 1858.2  John Canfield Thomas, sometime after his mother died in Nov1856 (his wife had died ca 1856) he left the state of South Carolina, leaving some small children, Tandy Lewis Martin became their gdn and admr of Sarah Canfield Thomas' estate as he was her nephew, son of her sister Susannah Canfield, wife of Lewis Martin. I would like very much to find out what happened to John C Thomas, did he remarry? did he enter the civil war? did he go out to LA where he had relatives?  What became of him?    Mary Ann EVANS and John Canfield THOMAS had the following children:

        33    iii.    Stephen L THOMAS was born about 1843 in Edgefield Co, SC.  He served in the military on March 6, 1863 in Edgefield Co, SC (24 Reg't SC Vol Co K- pvt).3  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Edgefield Co, SC Talbert #37-37.
        34    iv.    Martha E THOMAS was born about 1845 in Edgefield Co, SC.  She died before 1856 in Edgefield Co, SC.
