Melanie was born on November 19th, 1847.  Melanie's father was Pieter Joannes BAECKELANDT and her mother was Frederica VERVYNCKT.  Her paternal grandparents were Martinus-Joseph BAECKELANDT and Jeanne-Catharina VAN LAECKE.  She had a brother and a sister, named Carolus Ludovicus and Pauline.  She was the youngest of the three children.  She had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Bruno, August, Carolus Ludovicus, Henri, Rosalie and Pauline Francisca.  She died at just 13 days old on December 2nd, 1847.
