Married in Coleraine Reg Office. Gave Letterlone (Pa of Macosqion) as address (1863). Father given as John McKeown, weaver.
There are no McKeowns in Letterloan or Upper or Lower Balteagh but there IS a John McKeon in Lower Kiltinney, in the 1858 Griffiths Valuation.
Gave his residence as Kiltinney on his son, William John's, Civil Registration birth entry in 1868. (Why did he apparantly move out of his father's home in Kiltinney to get married in 1863 and then apparently move back in again for the birth of William John?)
His wife gives her address as Letterloan when she was PAD at her father's death in 1878.
A James McKeown had moved into House 14d in Lower Balteagh by the time of the 1885 Griffiths Valuation Revision Book updating, when he replaced a Charles McAleese. (James' daughter, Annabella gave her address as Balteagh when she married in 1885). He in turn is replaced in 14d by a James McAlease in the 1901 updating. A James McKeown briefly replaces a Samuel Chesnut in House 5a in 1901 in Balteagh Upper and can also be seen in the 1901 census. The house is vacant by 1902.
The only McKeowns in the 1901 Census are Mary McKeown, a 45 year old unmarried Presbyterian seamstress living alone and Martha McKeown, a 53 year old Presbyterian Farmer's widow, living with her 28 year old unmarried son, Thomas James. The latter is probably my James' sister-in-law, Martha Dowey.
James McKeown, and his wife, Ellen, are living in Balteagh Upper in the 1901 Census. He is a 59 year old married Presbyterian Agricultural labourer from County Derry and she is a 58 year old wife, Presbyterian from County Derry:
