Given as father of Jane Gordon in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church marriage records.
A George Gordon holds Plot 7 in the Tithe Applotment Book of 1826 and paid 9 shillings in tithes. George is an unusual name so it may well be this man.
A George Gordon is the Head of Household in House 40 in the 1831 Census, where he lives in a household of 6 males and two females. George is an unusual Gordon name so it should be this man.
George Gordon held Plot 37 in Lislea in the Griffiths Valuation, comprising 13/2/25 arps. He lived on this plot, which is in the area known as Hill head and just south of Plot 38, where John and James Gordon lived, so these people must be connected.
Hill Head is the name of the farm which Nellie Gordon said William Gordon inherited from his father, Willie Gordon. Judging by the valuation of the land, James held two thirds and John one third. Is John his brother or his father?
GVRBs:
- George is scored out of Plot 37 to "John (Hill)" in 1870; John is scored out to George in 1872; George is scored out to Thomas in 1874. I have no idea who John and George are but Thomas is his son.
- Thomas is scored out to Annie in 1904. Annie is his wife, Ann "Nancy" Burnside, who gets the farm in his will.
- Annie is scored out to W. J in 1918; W.J is scored out to "Elizth" in 1921; Elizth is scored out to Robert in 1923, who held Plot 37 until the end of the book in 1929. This all fits. Annie died in 1916. W.J is his son, William Johnston, who was killed when he fell off his bicycle in Kilrea in 1919. He was married at the time but I cannot find his marriage to see if he had married an "Elizth". And I do not know who Robert was but W. J would not have had a son old enough to take over in 1923. Did his brother, Robert, come back from America?
George and Jane had the following children: Thomas 1825, Stewart 1827, Archibald 1831, (another Archibald in 1833 but this one has the same DoB as the 1831 one so it may be an error), Sarah 1835, William John 1837, Catherine Anne 1839 and Maria 1841.
THis extensive tree is at A.com but, while it might give more info on some minor characters, I do not thnk it has anything new on the people closest to me (in fact, it has an error on the Gordon side:

It has George Gordon as a son of my Thomas Gordon not the one who married Jane Wilson.
