These Things Wait

poem
THESE THINGS WAIT

Pinks in thc garden, yuccas on thc hill»
Ground mist and sunshine merging to
a still
Haze-haloed fragrance, brewed of sage
and lime,
Rose breath and honeysuckle, lavender
and thyme!

Scrub oak and broom-yellow hung on
canyon edge,
Blood-red bougainvillaea gouted over
hedge,
Sun-lighted water spray rainbowing on
lawn,
Owl in the evening, bobwhite at dawn!

Tarweed through lupines, hooded white
and blue,
Breeze-bent eucalyptus finger-hung
with dew,
Hill trail and highway, garden path
and gate,
Home, on thc heart journey, these
things wait!
