PETALS OF THE GUELDER-ROSE, Kate Rennie Archer; Gillick Press, Berkeley. With the publication of Kate Rennie Archer's newest book, "Petals of the Guelder-Rose," it is high time that critical recognition, be given to her Versatile poetic gifts. This Bay Region poetess, who for some years has been developing her undoubted talent among us and has long been one of the principal contributors to The Other Fellow's column of The Tribune, has without, question earned this recognition.
Her verses have appealed to a steadily widening circle of readers and this new book will bring her many more admirers. The more meticulous lovers of verse will find that Mrs. Archer has come to full maturity as a lyricist. Her diversity of theme and her interpretation show a marked and steady development.
Mrs. Archer is to be congratulated on her choice of poems. It is evident she has not been content with inspiration alone. In the lyrics as well as the sonnets, she has used her tools deftly and understandingly. As an expert workman she is satisfied only with the best and this has been given generously. Where there are so many riches it is difficult to make a choice. The reader will discover his own favorites and it is certain they will be many.
