DEATH OF EX-BAILIE HAMILTON.
This old and respected townsman died at North Bulluderon, Tealing, between Dundee and Arbroath, on Sunday last, in the 78th year of his age. The deceased was a native of Ayrshire, but came to Paisley when a very young man, where he followed the profession of builder and stone merchant for upwards of fifty years. In this capacity he was generally known throughout the district, both in town and country, as an attentive and conscientious tradesman who might be depended upon for giving a good job for a fair price. A few years since Mr Hamilton’s health somewhat failed him, when he left Paisley and went to reside with a married daughter at Tealing in Forfarshire, where he died, as we have stated, on Sunday last. As showing the estimation in which Mr Hamilton was held by his fellow townsmen, about twenty years since he was elected one of the Bailies, and before he retired from office he had the honour of acting for a year as Senior Magistrate. The funeral of the deceased, which was private, but numerously attended, took place on Thursday afternoon, when the town bell was tolled for an hour in recognition of the civic position which he formerly occupied.
