Mary's father was Hugh Wason and her mother was Elizabeth Baird Cowan. Her paternal grandparents were William Wason and Susan Flinn. She had three brothers named Hugh, James and William. She was the oldest of the four children. She died at just 10 days old on March 23rd, 1901 in Philadelphia. She was buried in Philadelphia.
