David's father was James Rennie and his mother was Jean (Jeanie) Robertson. His paternal grandparents were David Rennie and Jeanie Muirhead. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, Alexander, Art, Jean, Annie and Edna. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died before 1990.²
