David's father was David Rennie and his mother was Agnes Miller.  His paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Janet Stronach. He had a brother and two sisters, named James, Margaret and Janet.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 2 in 1861 in Anderston.¹
