Turner's father was William Murray and her mother was Jane Bell. She had a brother and five sisters, named William, Janet, Elizabeth, Isabella, Ann and Alexandrina.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 71 in 1921 in Cambusnethan.
