Margaret's father was Hugh Drummond and her mother was Margaret Sutherland. Her paternal grandparents were William Drummond and Christian Campbell. She had six brothers and a sister, named William, Hugh, James, Alexander, Albert, John and Jane. She was the youngest of the eight children.
