Janet was born in 1882 in Paisley.1 Janet's father was Moses Drummond and her mother was Martha Buchanan. Her paternal grandparents were William Drummond and Christian Campbell. She had a sister named Mary. She was the younger of the two children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William, George, Agnes, Elizabeth, Christina and Janet.-
