Anders was born in 1752.  Anders' father was Anders Christensen Høstgaard and his mother was Karen Christensdatter.  His paternal grandparents were Christen Andersen Høstgaard and Ane Pedersdatter; his maternal grandparents were Christen Christensen Guust and Johanne Nielsdatter. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Christen, Peder, Thomas, Christen, Thomas, Peder, Anna and Johanne.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
