Jane's father was Francis Davidson FORREST and her mother was Ann HILL. Her paternal grandparents were David FORREST and Elizabeth MILLER; her maternal grandparents were William HILL and Jane KIRBY. She had a brother and five sisters, named William, Rachel, Mary, Rebecca, Kate and Emily. She was the oldest of the seven children.
