Matthew was born about 1729 in Charles Co., Maryland.  Matthew's father was John Boswell and his mother was Sarah Harris.  His paternal grandparents were William Boswell and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and six sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William, John, Edward, Charles, Joseph, Mary Ann, Selina, Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, Violetta and unk.  He was the second oldest of the thirteen children.  He died in 1810 in Albemarle Co. , VA.
