Joseph was born in 1677.  Joseph's father was Thomas of Rye Lyon and his mother was Martha Joanna Winthrop.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Winthrop and Elizabeth Fones. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel, John, Thomas, Marie, Abigail, <Unknown>, <Unknown>, Elizabeth, Deborah and Sarah. He had a half-brother named John.  He died at the age of 84 on February 21st, 1761 in Rye, NY.
