Joseph was born on June 7th, 1656 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.  Joseph's father was Thomas Wells and his mother was Naomi Marshall.  His maternal grandparents were Edmond  Edmund Immigrant Marshall (Immigrant to Salem, MA 1635 on the Hopewell; weaver) and Millicent ?? Blieman  Hallett. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Nathaniel, Mary, Sarah and Ruth.
