Abraham was born in 1698 in Somerset Co., New Jersey.  Abraham's father was Jooste Jansen VanMeteren Van Metre Van Meter and his mother is Sarah Dubois.  His paternal grandfather was Jan Joosten Van Meteren Van Meter and his paternal grandmother is Mayken Hendricksen; his maternal grandfather was Louis Dubois and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jan Joosten John Van Meteren, Isaac, Hendrick Jansen, Rebekah, Lysbet and Rachel.  He is the youngest of the seven children.
