John A Van was born in 1696 in Somerset County, Maryland.  John A Van's father was Thomas Van Swearingen and his mother was Jayne Hyde andOR Doyne.  His paternal grandparents were Garrett  Van Swearingen and Barbara DeBarrette; his maternal grandparents are Joshua Doyne and Jane Sanders. He had three brothers named Thomas Van, Van "Maryland Van" and Samuel Van.  He died at the age of 71 in 1767 in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland.
