Jabez was born in 1809 in Buffalo Creek Reservation, Erie, New York.  Jabez's father was Chief James Joh-nes-ha-dih Indian Agent Stevenson (Seneca's Christian faction) and his mother is Ruth Two Guns.  His paternal grandparents are Moses Stevenson (Seneca) and unk; his maternal grandparents are Chief Two Guns and Awaogoh. He has three brothers and two sisters, named Moses, Alexander, Nathaniel, Polly and Mary Ann.  He is the oldest of the six children.
