Richard was born about 1502.  Richard's father was Sir Edward Stanhope and his mother was Avelina Clifton.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stanhope and Mary Jernigan (Jerningham); his maternal grandparents were Gervase Clifton and <Unknown>. He had a brother named Michael. He had a half-brother named Anne.  He died on January 21st, 1583.
