Mary     (Townsend) was born in 1756 in Rowan County, NC.  Mary     (Townsend)'s father was Jonathan Brooks Stamper Sr and her mother was Rachael Park.  Her paternal grandparents were Powell Stamper and Mary Martha Brooks; her maternal grandparents were John Park and Mary Sharpe. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Joel, Jesse, Martha Frances "Frankie" and Susannah   (Burton). She had a half-sister named Sarah.  She died at the age of 67 in 1823 in Reddies River Wilkes Co NC.
