John was born about 1718.  John's father was Gov Alexander Spotswood and his mother was Ann Butler Brayne.  His maternal grandparents were Richard (Edward) , (Bryan?) BRAYNE  Bryan and Ann Bayne. He had a sister named Dorothea Brayne.  He was the older of the two children.  He died in 1758.
