  • General Thomas Patterson, the third son of William Patterson, was born 1 Oct 1764, in Lancaster Co., PA. He moved to Washington Co., PA at the age of fourteen, with his family. He built a flour and grist mill, which became known as Patterson's Mills, on Cross Creek. He married Elizabeth Findley (1773-1837), of Westmoreland Co., PA, on 6 Oct 1795. He was active in politics, as a member of the Electoral College in 1816, and a member of Congress from 1817-1825. He attained the rank of Major General in the militia, and was a veteran of the War of 1812. Gen. Patterson died 17 Nov 1841, and is buried with his wife at the old graveyard of the West Middletown U.P. Church, PA.
