  • Searching for information on the Marshall Oliver of Caroline Co. Va.
    Marshall married Mary Roberts daughter of Barnwell Roberts on 12-26-1803.
    Would like to find out what happened to the family.
    The censes of 1810 showed Marshall as head of household with wife (I take
    it to mean Mary) and young children, but by 1820 Marshall was married to
    Ann Shipp.The youngest child would have been about 10 in 1820. Family
    tradition says something happened to the family to break it up. (possibly a
    death in the family)
    One of Marshall's and Mary's son's (Robert Sidney) my Great Grandfather was
    sent to Kentucky at the age of 10-12 to learn the trade of blacksmithing
    from a Mr. Turnbull? , the rest of the family disappeared. Robert was not
    the oldest or the youngest , why was he the only one to be sent to
    kentucky?. Can anyone help with this mystery?

    Marshall Oliver married Mary Roberts 12-26-1803 in Caroline Co. VA.
    Census records 1810 shows Marshall and his wife with a son and daughter
    under 10 years old. in 1820 Marshall and his wife had 3 boys under 10, 1
    boy 1 to 10, and 1 girl 10 to 16. By 1830 Marshall and his wife are listed
    with 3 boys under 5, 2 boys 5 to 10, and 1 boy 10 to 15. In 1840 Marshall
    is living alone. Robert Sidney a son was born in 1822 assuming that he was
    10 years old when he came to kentucky that would make the date around
    1832. Stories told by Robert to the family is a storm blew the house away
    and Marshall's wife was killed. Can anypne help with what happened to the
    family.
