Lachlan was born in 1724.  Lachlan's father was Benjamin McIntosh and his mother was Catherine McIntosh.  His paternal grandparents were Brig. Gen. William McIntosh and Mary Reed; his maternal grandparents were Angus of Holm McIntosh and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Wainwood Winnewood, John, Roderick Old Rory, Elizabeth and Jannet.
