Mary Ann Martin

Mary Ann's father is Samuel Martin (Cherokee) and his mother was Eleanor Nellie Morton. His paternal grandparents are Henry Martin and Joanna Higgins; his maternal grandparents are Marshall Morton Sr and Winnie. He has two brothers named Henry and Joel Jackson.

General Notes
- Don Shadburn's book- "Cherokee Planters in Georgia" has an entry on page 167 concerning Mary Ann (Martin) Howell, "a quarter-blood daughter of Samuel Martin and Nellie Morton (a white woman)". I have found Don's books to be a very good source of reliable information.
  
  "Nely Moten" is also listed in Mary B. Warren's book: "Whites Among The Cherokee" (page 160). It shows her on the 1834 Forsyth County GA census, listed under "white inhabitants", with 7 in her family.
