Joseph was born in 1724 in VA.  Joseph's father was John Martin and his mother is Rachel Hawkins.  His paternal grandparents are Zachariah Abram Martin and Rebecca Elizabeth Bell. He had a brother named Zachariah.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 71 in May 1795 in NC.
