    On May 5, 1829, William Marshall and Catharine his wife con veyed by quit claim deed their right and title to the Ston y Brook farm to Elizabeth Cool, and in 1837 Elizabeth Coo l sold out to John Ege. In the spring of 1838 the large fam ilies of Marshall and Cool, together with Joseph Rue Sexto n and perhaps others, left Marshall's Corner with quite a c aravan of large farm wagons especially fitted up for the pu rpose. They set their faces toward the setting sun, and aft er a journey of fifty three days they came in sight of th e great "Father of Waters" where Cordova, Illinois, is no w located. Here they settled on the broad uncultivated prai rie which soon became a wealthy and prosperous community. W hen the writer first visited there, over 46 years ago, he f ound the Jersey settlers the leading citizens of the place , and everything both indoors and without bore such an unmi stakable impress of Old Hopewell thrift, culture, and refin ement, that he could scarcely realize that he was over on e thousand miles from home.
