    Sorry for the long delay in responding. My computer went on the fritz, and it took awhile to get it going again.
    
    I didn't have your Mary McDowell's parents (Hugh and Sarah Marshall McDowell/McDole) in my database; but I did some investigating & think I was able to trace them from 1820 in Hanover Twp., Beaver County, Pa to 1830 in Washington Twp., Columbiana Co., OH to 1850 in Lee Twp., Carroll County, OH to 1860 in Auglaize Twp., Paulding Co., OH, (in the home of their married daughter Martha) to 1870 & 1880 in Boyer Twp., Crawford County, Iowa (I wasn't able to locate them in 1840). The censuses seem to include their known 11 children at the appropriate times until their marriages: Matthew, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, Harriet, Rebecca, Susan, Hiram, Hannah, Martha & Hugh.
    
    Mary's father, Hugh, also seems to appear as a child (along with siblings Matthew, John, Henry, & James plus another unknown brother & possibly an unknown sister) in the 1800 census listing for his father Mathew "McDowell" (from Ireland) and also in the 1810 listing for his widowed mother Elizabeth "Madow" (in which the unknown sister from 1800 was no longer listed but was replaced with a listing appropriate for youngest sibling Rebecca). Both of these listings were also in Hanover Twp., Beaver County, PA.
    
    I don't have a clue as to what (if any) connection might exist between your Hugh McDole and the Margaret McDowell that I mentioned previously. It could just be coincidence that they both migrated from PA to Carroll County, OH. But who knows? That's part of what makes genealogy so fascinating!
    
    Let me know if the above info doesn't agree with your data in case I've gotten your Hugh mixed up with another family.
